M House

A Housing Settlement in Bodrum, Turkey
2017

Employer: F.M.

Design: Koleksiyon - Can Taşkent

Application: TGA

The campus is located in a quiet location on the Yalıkavak ridge, overlooking the bay.

The main building is single-storey and sits on a gross area of 250 m². Its facades are arranged with Bodrum's traditional stone masonry, and its carrier system is made of reinforced concrete against earthquake loads. Thanks to the fact that the building is oriented towards the north, the joinery was able to be kept wide, thus making the best use of daylight and view. The living area with wooden construction, hipped roof, spacious interior, fireplace and all bedrooms are oriented to the view.

The kitchen and services are positioned at the back, creating a sheltered inner courtyard between them and the living area. Right in front of the living area, a sheltered space with open sides has been arranged for Bodrum's summer days.

Special thermal insulation layers have been applied to the walls and roofs, thus providing living comfort suitable for all seasons with low energy costs. Auxiliary buildings are also designed in harmony with the same design language as the main building.

Additionally, the historical stone house on the land was restored and put into use. The garden is equipped with trees, flowers and aromatic plants suitable for Bodrum's climatic conditions, and shelters have been built for animals.

In this way, a largely self-sufficient, ecological system has been established for House M.
